[BISECTED] commit 1266c2219 prevents display refresh with tmux

Just FTR, there are 10 persons so far with the same issue in the AL
thread. Two of them (and that includes me) have reverted the commit
mentioned above and it fixed the issue each time.

I would guess the problem Andreas mentioned [1] is similar.
