Some trains are direct from FRA Fernbf. to Bonn main station.
Full single fare is 57.00 or 63.00 DM, depending on the train.
  http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en

At Bonn main train station change to subway (4 minutes walking)
and take tramway "66 - Telekom Express" in direction "Siegburg Bf".
* For Hotel Hangelar, get off at "Hangelar Mitte" (after 20 minutes).
* For the Campus, get off at "Sankt Augustin Markt" (5 minutes or 4 stops
  later).
Like this:
  Bonn train station
  [...]
  Hangelar Mitte (Hotel Hangelar)
  Hangelar Ost
  Sankt Augustin Ort
  Sankt Augustin Kloster
Sankt Augstin Markt (Hotel Regina, Campus)
  [...]
  Siegburg train station
This part costs you tariff B or 3 segments.
The complete timetable is available online:
 http://www.vrsinfo.de/minis/Stadtbahn/s_Linie_66.pdf

With public transport, the trip from CGN to "Sankt Augustin Markt"
should take about 1 hour, and from FRA to "Sankt Augustin Markt"
between 2:10h and 2:30h.

Unfortunately, there is a tariff zone change, so a trip
from Bonn main station to the workshop is _not_ A or two segments.
- Short distance ticket: 2.20 DM, valid 45 minutes
Hangelar Mitte to Sankt Augustin Markt is short distance
- A: 3.50 DM, valid 90 minutes
- B: 5.40 DM, valid 120 minutes
- 5 perl geeks travelling together can use a mini group card
BUT: only valid after 9am. Saturday and Sunday valid all day and
         until 3am the next morning.
  13.50 A (1-2), 19.50 B (3-4)

Note that all prices will increase slightly 2001-01-01.

HOTEL
-----
Conditions for "Regina" or "Hangelar" are comparable, and both are
only 3 tram stations apart. If you want to be closer to the campus,
take Regina, if you want to be closer to Bonn, or with the geeks,
take Hangelar. Regina is a conference hotel, Hangelar a smaller hotel.

On reservations:
Rooms are guaranteed until about 15th of January. Please send an
email with details of your preferred booking as soon as possible (best
still in 2000, or first week of 2001) to:
sigel at bonn.iz-soz.de, and we will put you on our block booking list
and confirm to you via email. Note that, unless otherwise arranged
(invited speakers notified in advance), you must pay for your hotel yourself,
of course. After mid-Jan, you may contact the hotels on your own if
there is still space, and you may get the special price quote.
But please inform sigel at bonn.iz-soz.de of your booking, too.
Note that both Hotels will soon be booked out. The sooner you book
the better!

CAMPUS
------
The 3rd German Perl Workshop will take place for the 2nd time
at Fachhochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Campus Sankt Augustin
(not Campus Rheinbach!). This young University of Applied Sciences
lets us again use their wonderful new building free of charge.
  http://www.fh-rhein-sieg.de/standort/einstieg.htm
How to get there: Follow "Anfahrtskizze/Autobahnkarte" for "Sankt Augustin".

Limited parking space is available directly in front of
the main building. We have to check conditions of usage.

How to get there with public transport:
(aka: You are in a tiny little maze ...)

Some hundred meters, perhaps 10 minutes walk:
Get off at tramway 66 "Sankt Augustin Markt.
Cross the pedestrian bridge and go downstairs on the others side,
not inside the "HUMA" shopping centre.
Go to the market square (passing "Firlefanz bar" to the right
and a Chinese restaurant to the left.
Cross the market square. Go past the book store.
Cross the street behind the market square via the pedestrian bridge
and go downstairs at the post office.
Walk along the street such that the post office is to your left.
Stop short before a big new building.
You know you are right if you recognize the blue cirled logo
of the University of Applied Sciences, located to the left.
This is Granthamallee, not yet in some older maps.
Go to the left and enter the building through the main entrance.
The reception desk is in front of you near the entrance.
Posters/Signs help you to find our registration desk nearby.

A public telephone is near the registration desk.

Canteen ("Mensa")
-----------------
The canteen is located just left to the main entrance.
You are allowed to use the canteen and will pay on your own the
special price for guests in cash. Around 6 DM.

Catering
--------
We'll arrange for coffee, tea, soft drinks and some cookies or so.
This is included in the nominal registration fee.

On Wednesday evening, there is a social event with dinner buffett and
drinks in Birlinghoven Castle. If you want to participate, please
register in addition to the workshop and pay the nominal fee of 20.- DM
(additional guests not at the workshop: 50.- DM).

You get there with our free bus transfer. We have not planned a joint
bus transfer back yet. Use public transport or taxis in groups. (You may
also walk downhill, around 30 minutes to Hangelar Mitte).

On Thursday evening, there is a snack planned in the evening, so you won't
starve in our evening programme.

Opening Hours
-------------
The building is almost always open, although doors will be closed around
11 pm, or even earlier, and you need to go to the main desk.

Available Technology
--------------------
We'll have all necessary technology there:
Full Internet, Beamer from the ceiling (VGA at least), Microphone,
Overhead Projector for Transparencies, etc. Please inform us soon if
you have special needs or questions.

Networking (The Perl Working and Poster Session Room)
-----------------------------------------------------
If everything works out fine, we will be able to provide
a separate room parallel to the main programme from Wed
morning till Fri evening.
This room will be equipped with networked linux computers
and movable walls for posters.
This room is intended to be used for communication, demonstrations,
joint perl work, and poster presentations.

We hope to find a sponsor for some linux laptops. Those will be
networked with DHCP. You can bring your own.

University Student and Staff Participation
------------------------------------------
In exchange for us using their facilities, Students and Staff of
this University of Applied Sciences have free entrance (except Social Event),
if and only if properly registered as participants. Proof of status
is required at the reception desk.

Book exposition
---------------
Buecherstube Sankt Augustin will organize a table with perl-related
books, in cooperation with O'Reilly and others. Please have a look
at their offerings.

Programme
---------
The main programme starts Wed 28-02-2001 14.00h, with two tutorials
in parallel starting 09.00h, and ends Fri 02-03-2001 around 16.15h.

The tutorials are free of (extra) charge for everyone registered.

Tue evening there is a BOF on ActivePerl with free beer, probably in
the University of Applied Sciences. We recommend you arrive on Tue
evening so you can check into the hotel, take part in the BOF, can
do a bit of social networking and are ready for the tutorials next
morning.

Poster Session
--------------
Wed 28 approx. 18.20h-19.30h there will be a joint poster session,
with reserved time for a repetition Thu 01 approx. 18.10-19.15h, in
parallel to the workshop planning BOF.

So what will this poster session be?

Thanks to the substantial number of excellent offerings for talks,
this year we have an excellent, though crammed programme. In order to
keep the workshop within 3 days, and still not have to schedule talks
in parallel, we could only accept a limited number of talks.
As those decisions were not easy, it took considerably more time than
originally planned. On the other hand, the rest of the contributions
was too valuable to be completely rejected.

In order to maximize networking, exchange and effective communication,
we decided to have a poster session.

At scientific conferences, posters are such contributions which
are received too late for the normal review process, report on
preliminary results or news, are intended to stir cooperation, or
otherwise don't fit into the main programme.

In parallel to the main auditory we will have an additional room
with linux computers in which participants can discuss in smaller
groups, jointly work on, or demonstrate perl-related stuff.
There will be movable walls to present posters.

Poster presenters please bring a poster (A2 format or so) on which
everything central is stated, such that someone not attending the
poster presentation can grasp what's it about (self-explaining)
and take with him/her the (business) card or note down the URL.
Screenshots or graphs are nice.

All poster presenters will be present during the poster session in
front of their posters and explain them to participants interested.
All posters are presented in parallel.

We will try to keep the networking room open during all the conference.
Thus, participants may also make appointments with poster presenters
for an in-depth demo/discussion during other (quiter) times.
