Can you please read this thread [1] (my reply is paramount) and try and
add such funtionality in there?  I appreciate you might consider that
dead-end, but your patch, coupled with what is already present in [1]
would be a nice addition there, assuming the patch in [1] ever is
cleaned up by the author.  :)
