The changes in this release are as follows:
URxvt is much safer for setuid/setgid operation due to moving
privileged operations into a helper process and dropping privileges
on startup. The pty/tty/utmp/wtmp handling code has been rewritten to
be more portable. The Perl extension is much more powerful now, and
several extensions have been added/improved. The selection is now
configurable, selection-autotransform automatically transforms the
selection, and automove-background implements a
pseudo-transparency-like effect for normal bg pixmaps. Many minor
improvements are also part of this release.

rxvt-unicode is a clone of the well known terminal emulator rxvt,
modified to store text in Unicode (either UCS-2 or UCS-4) and to use
locale-correct input and output. It also supports mixing multiple
fonts at the same time, including Xft fonts.
