MySQL and FTP type clients failing to pass through prompt? via Windows

Hello,

    I found lots of posts where people were talking about this type of 
problem but no solution:

The MySQL command line client doesn't communicate with the rxvt console 
client properly. I can change it's behavior slightly by changing the 
type of TERM at rxvt startup but nothing seems to work completely. More 
recently I noticed that the Windows XP FTP client cannot be invoked from 
within the rxvt client console either due to login/password prompting 
methodology(guessing here). I'm using the Windows DOS console for these 
purposes, but how have the rest of you got around this problem?
