AnyEvent::HTTP timeout handling

hello - am using the HTTP module and want persistent conns (keepalive => 1)
.  But sometimes one of the conns in the pool times out after a period of
non-use, eg.

{
   "Reason" : "Connection timed out",
   "URL" : "http://10.20.30.40:5000/stats",
   "Status" : 595
}

question is: what is the best way to have this condition [auto]eliminated
and a new conn replaces it?
