Proxy buffer problems

Good time of day!

I've got a funny problem with my proxy.
My proxy buffers small portions of data, that httpd on anime.plan9.de
sends to prevent connection timeout (for queued clients). The buffer is
approximately 5 kilobytes long, and my client (GNU Wget 1.9+cvs-stable
(Red Hat modified)) gets no data until the proxy fills it up. So I have
to use timeout setting (12 hours or more) in order to prevent connection
reset.

Has anybody met this problem before? 
Is there a more convenient way to prevent connection timeout?
